Secret Mode has announced that itās bringing Sumo Digital Academyās revival of the Amiga almost-classic Zool Redimensioned to PlayStation consoles on May 16, 2023.
Zool was originally released in 1992 on the Commodore Amiga before being ported to other consoles. Despite its availability on different platforms, itās largely considered to be an Amiga cornerstone. 2021ās Zool Redimensioned was a ground-up remake that bases itself on the Amiga version. It features widescreen support, which is a pretty revolutionary change, considering it was a game that would sometimes punish quick movements.
I enjoyed it for what it was. It was a worthwhile update, but I donāt really think about Zool Redimensioned all that often anymore. In my review, I called it a ācomfortable slice of ā90s platforming,” which still sounds appropriate to me now. Good call, past me.
Along with this port comes multiplayer in the form of party modes Zoolās Gold, Rool of Zool, and Ball Brawl. Not much has been shown off about them. The trailer shows off Rool of Zool, but itās hard to really make out whatās happening. I see bosses though, so it kind of looks fun. The patch will also be coming to the existing PC version. My family wonāt play platformers with me because I exist on a higher plain of skill in that genre. Every genre, really, but donāt tell them I said that.
Zool Redimensioned is currently available on PC, and will be making its way to PS4 and PS5 on May 16.
