You can’t go wrong with getting the $20 base Elder Scrolls Online for free

It’s on the Epic Games Store now

The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) is free on the Epic Games Store right now, and it’s a pretty fantastic way to spend this semi-lull gaming period if you aren’t gettingĀ Pikmin 4.

In case you were wondering, this is considered the “standard” edition of ESOĀ and includes both the base game and theĀ Morrowind chapter for $20. The “Necrom” version is $60 and adds in “all previous chapters,” which at this point includes: High Isle, Blackwood, Greymoor, Elsweyr, Summerset, and Morrowind.

You can grab Elder Scrolls Online for free right here. This freebie promo will run through July 27 at 11AM ET, so you have time!

Is ESO worth playing?

Absolutely! Especially for free. Although it had its issues at launch, I thoroughly enjoyed running through and exploring this version of theĀ Elder Scrolls universe, and it’s only expanded since then with numerous quality-of-life patches. Although, you will have to buy/acquire the expansions that deal with content beyond the base game.

Does ESO have a mandatory subscription fee?

Nope! That’s where this free offer comes in handy.

There is, however, an “ESO Plus Membership” that you can buy, which has become increasingly popular since Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO) helped usher the scheme into the mainstream MMO scene ages ago.

Here’s what it includes:

  • Access to all DLC game packs
  • Free crowns for the in-game Crown Store [read: microtransactions]
  • Access to the Craft Bag
  • Double bank space
  • Bonuses to progression
  • Increased Furniture placement limits
  • Costume dyeing
  • Double Transmute Crystal capacity
  • Exclusive access to unique Crown Store deals
