I’m honestly not sure how “free” it is since it comes up for me at $83, which is more than Switch games typically go for, even when converted to Canadian Loonies. That sounds like you’re paying something to get it, which means it isn’t free. Maybe that’s just weirdness with regional pricing. However, the store page does say that it has a value of $29.98. That kind of puts it in keychain territory.

But maybe it’s not a keychain. Maybe it’s something way cooler like a hat pin. Maybe it’s Guilty Gear Strive on PS4. Maybe they’re bundling in one of the DLC seasons. Maybe it’s literally just $29.98 in cash. It could be anything worth $29.98, and value is in the wallet of the beholder. Our boy Eric Van Allen is brave enough to find out. Are you?

I love Guilty Gear Strive. I can’t play it for too long at the time because the opening dialogue that says “Mankind knew they cannot change society. So instead of reflecting on themselves, they blamed the Beasts” every fucking fight wears on me. I don’t want to skip the introduction, but I also don’t want to listen to that pseudointellectual prose every fight. What was wrong with just “Heaven or Hell?” Couldn’t they just say it once and be done with it?

What were we talking about? Oh, right. Currently, I’ve only been able to find the mystery gift deal on the official Arc System Works Gear store. It’s available for preorder right now and will ship when the game releases January 23, 2025.
