Yes, broken Helldivers 2 “Kill 5” Personal Order can be completed

Kill 5 what?

A recent Personal Order in Helldivers 2 seems to have completely broken. It requests players “Kill 5,” without any hint as to what they should be killing, where, with what weapons or Stratagems, or any additional information at all.

Super Earth has been vague in the past, possibly encouraging more citizens to sign up to be Helldivers, but this Personal Order seems to be a bug. Thankfully, players on the Helldivers 2 subreddit quickly figured out how to complete the Personal Order despite the current Major Order sending us all into completely the wrong territory. It’s unclear what happened here, but at least we can all get it over and done with now.

Helldivers 2‘s current Personal Order is particularly obtuse

To complete the Personal Order to “Kill 5” in Helldivers 2, players realized that you actually need to kill five Automaton Hulks. These large enemies try to set you on fire and generally make life very unpleasant while you’re trying to complete objectives.

User notlimahc was the first to explain it. “Yeah, helldivers.io says Automatons Edit: It’s Hulks.” I tested this out by hopping into a mission and looking out for these monumental machines. I managed to take out two in a mission, and sure enough, the Personal Order was updated back on my ship.

It’s interesting that we get this Personal Order in the middle of an assault on Terminid worlds because, obviously, we wouldn’t even accidentally complete it without looking into it as some players have because it requires us to focus on another faction altogether.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time this has happened in Helldivers 2. The same Personal Order was posted roughly one month ago, and it was bugged then as it is now. User Emia_Kiritsugu remembers this well. “The same PO was bugged like this like month ago or so, and they just swapped it with something else. I guess they didn’t bother to fix it.”

While we’d all rather the game’s Personal Orders explained what we should actually do, user DBZpanda proposed a great way Arrowhead Game Studios could spin this one. “I think it would kinda be funny if they made a personal order “kill 5 Helldivers” and then later released a broadcast saying the automatons hacked into our systems.”

So far in Helldivers 2, we’ve had Automatons planning an all-out assault on Super Earth and Terminids creating a supercolony thanks to a pesticide we sprayed all over them. It certainly wouldn’t be unexpected or unbelievable to see the Automatons hacking our system to disrupt our efforts in the Second Galactic War.
