XDefiant hits major player count achievement just one week after release

An impressive start.

XDefiant may only have been out for a week, but Ubisoft’s Call of Duty competitor has already broken some major milestones, reportedly hitting over seven million unique players.

According to Insider Gaming, Ubisoft expected to cross the eight million mark by the end of May 28, and has already set company records for players. According to the article, the publisher’s internal goal was to reach five million unique players within a month of release, a milestone that has been smashed within seven days.

Unique players are categorized as players who downloaded the game and opened it at least once. Of course, the 7.6 million will be made up of players who didn’t return after the first play, but it still shows that interest and early reviews for the game were strong enough to entice people in.

The performance is particularly impressive when you consider the game’s difficult development. XDefiant was delayed on multiple occasions, leaving many wondering if the full game would ever see the light of day. On top of that, the success of Modern Warfare 3 left many wondering if Ubisoft had missed their chance, and would be unable to compete with CoD.

Despite those concerns, XDefiant has clearly gotten off to a good start, but now we need to wait and see if they can hold on to these players. With Season 1 slated for a summer release, the arrival of new guns, modes, and maps will game fans more content to enjoy, but with hype at a fever pitch already for Black Ops 6, Ubisoft has a tough job on their hands.
