Microsoft has officially confirmed the existence of the Xbox Series S console. The lower-powered, more affordable edition of next-gen Xbox hardware will launch later this year for $299 USD. In the UK, the console will retail for £249 GBP.

Microsoft’s hand was seemingly forced after leaks sprung up on both Windows Central and tech site Thurrot, showing off the Xbox Series S and announcing the price point. This was swiftly followed by an official announcement from Microsoft on Twitter, with promise of further details in the very near future.

Windows Central went as far as to suggest that the Xbox Series S will launch on November 10, alongside its bigger brother, Xbox Series X, proposing that the latter unit will retail for around $499. In addition, Windows Central revealed the existence of a finance option, which will allow customers to purchase the respective consoles on a $25/$35-per-month payment plan. Microsoft did not reference the speculation regarding the Xbox Series X or its launch date.

Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S are both scheduled for launch later in 2020.
