Microsoft is obviously looking forward to the future, but it hasn’t completely turned its attention from the past. At E3, it dropped the bombshell that it had a backward compatibility program so that Xbox 360 titles could be played on Xbox One.

In the time since, many details have trickled out about how and when it would actually work. We don’t have the definitives on the how, but at least we have the when. As part of its gamescom press conference, it was revealed that backward compatibility will be available to everyone in November of this year.

Moreover, Microsoft announced that all Xbox 360 Games with Gold titles will be backward compatible upon launch, meaning that you don’t need the old system to take advantage of those old freebies. Once that’s fully implemented, there’s probably not a lot of reason to keep the faithful 360 in the entertainment system anymore.
