Around the launch of the Xbox Series X/S, there were a few strange products from Xbox, including the Xbox fridge. The latest gimmick from the company is the Xbox Mastercard, which is equally as unexpected but may provide more practical uses.
As explained in the blog post, the no annual fee Xbox Mastercard will allow you to earn points as you spend. The points can be spent on games and add-ons at xbox.com. For anyone enticed, take note that there are terms and conditions. The card is only available to customers in the continental United States, Alaska, and Hawaii from September 21.
To sign up for the card, you’ll have to be an Xbox Insider, which is simply a program where you can give feedback on the latest Xbox system updates, features, and games. If you don’t want to join the program, you’ll have to wait until 2024 when the card will be available to all players in the USA.
Why does the Xbox Mastercard exist
With a large Xbox logo on your credit card, you’ll quickly let your cashier know exactly what kind of person they’re dealing with. You’ll also gain points when spending at the following places:
- Microsoft – you earn 5x points on eligible products on the Microsoft store
- Streaming – you earn 3x points on participating streaming services such as Netflix and Disney+
- Delivery – you earn 3x points on participating dining delivery services such as GrubHub and DoorDash
- Everyday purchases – earn 1x on everyday purchases
There are also some additional benefits that may appeal to anyone who spends a lot of time gaming. You’ll get three months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate after your first purchase if you’re a new Game Pass member. There’s also the option to personalize your card with your gamertag.
It appears the Xbox Mastercard will find a cosy home alongside other quirky gaming products such as the Resident Evil 4 chainsaw controller and the luxurious Starfield chair.
