Microsoft has been informing UK Xbox owners that the price of Xbox Live Gold will rise in May. For new customers the price hike will take effect from May 8, while existing subscribers will have to stump up the extra cash from August 7.

“To ensure gamers have consistent pricing for Xbox Live Gold across Europe we are making changes to UK pricing from May 8th,” clarified Microsoft to VG247. “Prices will rise by £1 a month for our monthly subscriptions, £3 for our quarterly subscriptions and by £10 a year for an annual membership. This new pricing is aligned to the changes we made in the region in 2016 as we strive to offer our members premium gaming and entertainment services at a fair price”.

The price adjustments described above will take monthly subscriptions to £7, three-month subscriptions to £18, and 12-month subscriptions to £50. An initial statement noted that the price changes have been made to “address changing market conditions”.
