With sales of Xbox 360s notoriously and consistently low in Japan, Microsoft is doing everything in their power to entice the denizens of the land of the rising sun into purchasing their products. In another attempt at the aforementioned spread, Microsoft is releasing their Xbox 360 Arcade version in Japan come March 6th.
The Xbox 360 Arcade will retail for the same price as existing models (27,800 yen) but comes bundled with five Live Arcade games, a 256MB memory card unit, a wireless controller, and features an HDMI port. The release of the Arcade version is occurring in conjunction with the release of several Xbox 360 Platinum titles, with Microsoft likely hoping the simultaneous releases garner enough attention to result in an increase in sales.
Somehow I suspect this won’t have the impact Microsoft is hoping it will, though with Live Arcade rife as it is with “casual” games, this may be just the boost Microsoft needs to finally become big in Japan.
