The War Within, World of Warcraft‘s newest expansion, is fast approaching. With the next three expansions already announced, fans are excited to see what the next arc of the Warcraft story may entail. While not much has yet been released about the expansion, we do know where this next saga will begin: Khaz Algar.
Many fans are wondering where this new land will fit into the World of Warcraft universe, and what adventures they might expect to find there. This guide will clue players into what we know so far so that they can be ready as soon as The War Within begins.
What is Khaz Algar?
Khaz Algar was an area originally found by the Titan Keepers, as they registered a geological anomaly in a place they called Sector AR-938. The Titan Keepers sent a group of Earthen to inspect this anomaly, but they began to show signs of succumbing to the Curse of Flesh, despite having no connection to other Earthen that had become creatures of flesh. These afflicted Earthen Dwarves continued to live here, naming it Khaz Algar themselves.
Where is Khaz Algar?
Khaz Algar is located in the South West seas, between Kalimdor and Pandaria.
What Zones make up Khaz Algar?
Khaz Algar is made up of four zones, though rather than being different zones on the surface, this area is instead made up of a surface zone and three subterranean zones, with each being located one over the other. The zones, from highest to deepest, are as follows:
- The Isle of Dorn
- The Ringing Deeps
- Hallowfall
- Azj-Kahet
The Isle of Dorn
The Isle of Dorn is the surface level of Khaz Algar. The Earthen Dwarves, WoW’s newest playable race, reside here, serving the edicts of the Titans. Their capital, Dornogal, is located here. There are also large, electrically charged peaks, where elemental rooks reside, sometimes choosing to allow an Earthen to ride them. These Earthen become known as Stormriders.
The Ringing Deeps
The Ringing Deeps is the second zone of Khaz Algar. Similar to many other Dwarven zones, this area is filled with the industrial equipment and activities of the Earthen Dwarf people. The Earthen Dwarves here often find themselves in conflict with the Nerubians who live below, as well as Kobolds, larger than seen in the past. There will be sparse vegetation, but most of this zone is dedicated to the industrious nature of the Earthen Dwarves.
Hallowfall
Hallowfall is a subterranean zone lit by a sun-like crystal that protrudes through the top of the cavern. The crystal provides enough light and warmth for vegetation to grow, creating a realm that looks similar to the surface in many ways. The land in this cavern is surrounded by an expansive body of water, akin to the ocean.
Hallowfall is inhabited by the Arathi tribe, an offshoot of human tribes that comprised the empire of Arathor in Azeroth’s past. This tribe worships the cavern’s sun crystal and its light, using holy fire to power machines such as airships, used to navigate the caverns. They are also a militant people, honed by constant combat with the Nerubian forces of Azj-Kahet.
Azj-Kahet
Azj-Kahet is the last home of the living Nerubians, an expanse taken up in large part by the City of Threads. The City of Threads is a city that has survived millennia, with new levels being constantly built as the old ones decay, resulting in a great divide between the members of Nerubian high society at the top’s newest levels, while the poor and outcasts live in the crumbling levels below.
These Nerubians have grown over the years, free from their conflict with both the Scourge and the Old Gods that crushed their people in Northrend. However, dissent still stirs. Xal’atath, the Harbinger of the Void, has made her way here to make a new army for the Void. The Nerubian leader, Ansurek, has made a deal with Xal’atath. The Nerubians now harvest the blood of the Old Gods, waging war with the Arathi tribe in exchange for power from Xal’atath, turning chosen Nerubians into an enhanced version of themselves. Still, the Nerubians are not united in this endeavor, and some openly oppose Ansurek and Xal’atath.
Khaz Algar will give players tons to explore as they delve deep into this new world of the Earthen Dwarves and Evolved Nerubians. While there will surely be more mysteries to explore, now players will at least know what they’re getting into when The War Within releases.
