Players of both the original and recent remake of Resident Evil 3 have all experienced the dread of those heavy booming footsteps just a few corridors away. Even compared to the various zombies, frightening lickers, and dogs that just don’t seem to die, Resident Evil‘s Nemesis remains an ever present enigma that continues to terrify players to this day. But who created them in the first place?
Read on to learn more about who the Nemesis in the Resident Evil games really is and who made them.
According to the official Capcom lore, Umbrella created nemesis by implanting a NE-Ī± Type Parasite into a Tyrant Bio Weapon, creating the entity known as Nemesis. At this time however, there is still no official cannon as to who became the Tyrant that received the parasite.
For anyone unfamiliar, Tyrants are bioweapons created by Umbrella by injecting a large quantity of the T-Virus into a human subject. The addition of the parasite makes the BOW subservient allowing Umbrella operatives to control them more reliably. This is the primary reason why Mr. X pursues the members of S.T.A.R.S. single-mindedly while only harming whatever got in the way of this objective.
Yeah, Nemesis is not only frightening, but pretty dang annoying when trying to complete an objective. However, if you’re hoping to kill it a bit earlier in the RE3 Remake, there is some bad news. Nemesis is able to be slowed down, but not completely killed until much later in the adventure.
To slow down Nemesis and give yourself some breathing room early on, use explosives such as grenades, the mine launcher, and other high power weapons. Grenades seem to work particularly well, as just one (on lower difficulties) to Nemesis’ face will cause them to drop to their knees. This isn’t the case, however, in later encounters.
There is a bit of risk and reward here, especially on higher difficulties where ammo is scarcer. While stunning Nemesis buys you a bit of time, it is usually more worth it to just run away and utilize the dodge, rather than using precious grenades and ammo when Nemesis starts to require a bit more force to go down. If you do decide to use this method though, Nemesis does drop some supply cases and weapon upgrades which are nice to have.
While not the most satisfying of answers, don’t worry. Later on in the adventure, there will be plenty of opportunity to bring some real hurt to Nemesis. If you think the nightmare will end there though, the little jerk has found his way into Modern Warfare 3. Yikes.
