Who is Bloodmoon Ursaluna in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?

Zombie bear is so OP.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet’s first DLC pack, The Teal Mask, contains several new Pokemon for players to collect, including the mighty and somewhat creepy Bloodmoon Ursaluna form. This brand new form for the Pokemon Legends Arceus Hisuian evolution brings this old Pokemon into the present day.

Bloodmoon Ursaluna, explained

Bloodmoon Ursaluna is a brand new form for the third stage in the Teddiursa and Ursaring line. It is a Normal and Ground-type Pokemon, much like the original Ursaluna, but it differs in both appearance and stats. Its visual appearance is a bit menacing, containing a stark red blood moon symbol on its forehead, rather than the bright full moon of the original.

In addition, Bloodmoon Ursaluna’s stats are quite different from its previous iteration:

  • HP: 113
  • Attack: 70
  • Defense: 120
  • Special Attack: 135
  • Special Defense: 65
  • Speed: 52
  • Stats Total: 555

Ursaluna’s weaknesses are as follows:

  • Grass
  • Fighting
  • Ice
  • Water

Resistances:

  • Poison
  • Rock

Immunities:

  • Electric
  • Ghost

This form of Ursaluna is a Special Attacker, rather than a physical one like its original counterpart. It is quite bulky with high health and Special Attack, but at the cost of being rather slow. Its Kitakami Pokédex entry states:

“This special Ursaluna can see in the dark with its left eye and protects itself with mud that is as hard as iron.”

How to catch Bloodmoon Ursaluna in The Teal Mask

If you want to catch Bloodmoon Ursaluna for yourself in The Teal Mask DLC, unfortunately, you only have one static encounter and chance to get it. To start, you must have caught at 150 different Pokemon in the DLC Pokédex, which only contains 200 in total. Once you have that many, speak with Perrin anytime after starting the DLC in Mossui Town.

Perrin will give you a side quest in the Timeless Woods to take photos of 10 different species. After this, be sure to save your game and get ready for a boss encounter against Bloodmoon Ursaluna. Keep an eye on its frequent use of Calm Mind, and try to use its weaknesses to take it down before its Special Attack gets out of control.

Once you knock Ursaluna’s HP all the way to zero, you’ll get the chance to capture it. Feel free to use whichever Pokeball you prefer. Note that it is shiny-locked due to its single encounter in The Teal Mask and you can’t evolve Ursaring into Bloodmoon Ursaluna at this time.
