Which EA FC 25 edition should you buy – Standard or Ultimate?

Tough choice.

EA FC 25 launches globally on September 27, and you can grab your copy by pre-ordering either the Standard or Ultimate Edition.

EA Sports has followed the staple formula with the series, and two separate editions are available. The Standard is cheaper, but the Ultimate Edition offers a lot more in-game items. This decision can be confusing, especially for those who are going to buy their first FC title. There’s no upgrade option either, which means that you should be confident about your purchase.

Who should buy the EA FC 25 Standard Edition?

The Standard Edition is priced at $69.99 on current-gen systems, and it offers a few extra in-game items along with the base game. You don’t get any early access either, and that means that you can only play on September 27. At first, it might seem that the Standard Edition is barebones, but that’s actually not the case.

If you have no interest in playing Ultimate Team, the Standard Edition is the best possible choice. While you do start your journey seven days late, you’re not missing out on anything. You also end up saving $30. Most of the extra in-game items that come with the Ultimate Edition are geared toward the Ultimate Team. Why spend more for a game mode you won’t even play?

Who should buy the EA FC 25 Ultimate Edition?

If you’re a hardcore Ultimate Team fan like me, the Ultimate Edition should be an easy choice. This year, you get seven extra days – a massive head start over other players who can only begin their journeys on September 27. During these seven days, you can complete a week of Squad Battles and Division Rivals grind. That translates into one extra set of weekly rewards.

Then there are the extra goodies you get with Ultimate Edition. 4,600 FC Points is a big number at the start of a new game, and you can use them to open packs or play the Online Draft mode (and get more rewards). Those who have pre-ordered the Ultimate Edition before August 20 will also get a free Origin Hero to start their journey. While you do spend $30 more with the Ultimate Edition, the seven days of extra playtime and FC Points make it a worthwhile investment.

EA Sports has actually improved the potential value of Ultimate Edition. You get seven days of early access (compared to three last year). The Origin Hero offer is much better, and the card will get upgraded to Prime Hero in November (so you can keep using the card for a longer time). Unless you have absolutely no interest in playing Ultimate Team, the Standard Edition is a poorer choice.

Even if you play Ultimate Team casually, the added benefits of the Ultimate Edition will be worth it in the long run.
