Where to hide the bottle cap in Chapter 1 of Life is Strange: Double Exposure

Magical, honesty-invoking bottle cap

During Chapter 1 of Life is Strange: Double Exposure, Max will head up to the balcony of the Astronomy department with Safi and Moses to watch a meteor shower. During the evening, Safi will cryptically allude to some good news without going into detail.

There is a way to get this information out of her, and it involves a bottle cap that forces the holder to do anything they’re told to do, within reason. I’m fairly confident there isn’t any actual magic involved aside from the power of friendship.

To reach the point where Max has the bottle cap, you’ll need to wait for the cutscenes to end and then approach Moses at the computer. Max will ask him if he wants to know Safi’s good news, and that’s when he’ll tell her about the bottle cap. Unfortunately, we can’t just hand it to Safi, and will instead need to trick her into taking it.

Once you’ve got the bottle cap in your possession, it’s time to look around the balcony for different methods to discreetly pass it over to Safi. There are a lot of things to interact with up here, but in reality, only four of them are relevant for this purpose:

  • Safi’s Bag next to the chair she was previously sitting in
  • Snow Bank to the left of the entrance to the balcony
  • Cigarette Pack on the balcony balustrade near Safi
  • Sour Candy on the cooler next to Safi’s chair

What happens if you hide the bottle cap in Safi’s bag?

Max says herself that Safi is insanely protective over her bag and will likely notice if you go anywhere near it. Despite this, you can still choose to try and hide the bottle cap inside. Sadly, she will notice you snooping, and this option won’t work.

What happens if you put the bottle cap in a snowball?

As it turns out, Max does not have a good throwing arm. Placing the bottle cap in a snowball made from the Snow Bank does not go according to plan, and Max completely misses Safi, sending both the snowball and the bottle cap over the edge of the balcony.

What happens if you hide the bottle cap in the cigarette packet?

Safi is a bit of a chain smoker at times, so one of your options is the cigarette packet located close to her. Despite trying to be sneaky, Safi will absolutely see Max hiding the bottle cap in the packet and immediately call her out for doing it.

This is the only way you can get the bottle cap to Safi successfully. Hide the bottle cap in the sour candy and then offer some to Safi, who will eagerly hold out her hand in acceptance. Max will then pour the bottle cap into Safi’s hand, and you’ll be able to either force the good news out of her or not, depending on which choice you go for.
