Despite having a robust ship-building mechanic, Starfield is fond of simply handing out ships at no cost. There are multiple ways of landing a free ship in the game, from getting one as a quest reward or stealing one off some pirates. If you manage to stumble on Vulture’s Roost while playing Starfield, you can earn another free ship for your troubles ā the Dagger.
The Dagger isn’t completely free, per se, since you do have to work to add it to your collection. To find it, head to Jaffa IV in the Jaffa star system. It’s a level 35 star system, so if you’re uncomfortable taking on enemies ranging from around 6-30, you may want to wait a bit. But you should go for it if you’re within 10 levels. Starfield is quite generous when it comes to combat difficulty. You should bring plenty of health items, just in case.
Vulture’s Roost is a place where Starfield mercs like to chill
Jaffa IV might be a chilly little rock, but things are about to heat up. Land at Vulture’s Roost and get ready to fight. It’s a secret base for the Ecliptic mercenaries… and they don’t like unwanted guests. They started blasting at me the second I left my ship. What a hell of a welcoming party.
Vulture’s Roost is a base built into the side of winding cliff walls. It’s chock full of weapons, ammo, equipment, and some illicit goods like contraband. If you’re in the market for illegal mech parts or harvested organs, there’s plenty to steal away with here. Otherwise, make your way past enemy forces, locked chests, and unfortunate-looking toilets until you reach the center of the complex. The Ecliptic mercs honestly have some nice digs here, complete with barracks, a jail, and a whole bar and lounge. Soon enough, you’ll stumble on what appear to be offices. You’re getting close to the ship. In fact, you should hear it before you see it.
How to get the Dagger ship in Starfield
You’ll eventually come to a large, deep landing area. Before you reach it, you may hear the Dagger coming in for a landing. Apparently, you caused enough of a ruckus for the mercs to call for backup. That’s a mistake. Enter the landing area and start heading down the stairs, taking out mercs as you go. At the bottom there should be a few lingering mercenaries protecting the ship. Kill them and head inside the Dagger. The cockpit hides two final mercenaries. Take them out, and the Dagger is yours.
The Dagger is probably not the best ship you can find in Starfield. It is outclassed by the Razorleaf ā another free vessel. The Dagger is a class A ship with 230 cargo capacity and fits two crew members. You may want to opt for the Razorleaf or better yet, the Star Eagle with its massive cargo hold and five-crew cockpit. Regardless, it’s still a free ship you can do with however you please. And when life gives you a free ship, you take the damn ship.
