Where to Find Scrap in Coral Island

They say ‘one person’s trash is another’s treasure,’ and that goes doubly in Coral Island. In this green farming sim / island recovery experience, a difference is accentuated between regular trash and scrap, and they both have their own uses in crafting. 

You might notice, though, scrap is somewhat rarer than trash — that is to say, the drop rate when harvesting is considerably lower. There’s a significant chance you’ll end up with a disproportionate amount of trash and a fractional amount of scrap. So, let’s take a look at all the ways you can find more scrap in Coral Island. You’ll need it if you’re wanting to craft an Extractor or a Sprinkler!

Where to Find Scrap in Coral Island?

As stated above, one method of securing scrap is by breaking up the trash found throughout the island — a lot of trash can be found on your farmland at the beginning of the game and underwater if you’ve completed the diving subquest. In my experience, however, scrap is even less likely (though not impossible) to materialize while underwater, so it might be best to limit your search to trash on dry land.

If you’re running low on trash piles to plunder, but you have time to kill, you can always convert trash you’ve collected into scrap using a Recycling Machine. There are several means by which you can get a Recycling Machine: You earn the crafting blueprint for it upon reaching Diving level 2, but you can earn one without having to craft it at all by finishing the Essential Resources tributes at Lake Temple. It’s also worth noting that you can buy a Recycling Machine during the Beach Cleanup Festival in Summer, but the aforementioned two methods of acquiring the device can be pulled off much earlier.

It will convert 2 units of trash (or 2 units of flyers) into 1 unit of scrap at a rate of around 30 seconds per scrap. Sure, it may take some time, but you can fill up the Recycling Machine and go about your day — before you go to sleep, or when you wake up the next morning, your scrap will be waiting for you. Lastly, scrap has a chance of appearing for sale at the Lighthouse Black Market for 60 corals per unit. 

What can Scrap be used for in Coral Island?

So, you’ve solved your scrap scarcity problem, so now we should discuss what you can use this resource for. In much the same way that you used a Recycling Machine to convert trash into scrap, you can use a Kiln to convert 3 units of scrap into 1 unit of glass. You can unlock the Kiln blueprint upon reaching Foraging level 2, and there are no shops in the game that sell this item.

If you don’t find yourself needing a bunch of glass, you can always use your scrap in crafting recipes! Here’s a list of items that call for scrap in their recipes:

• Sprinkler: 5x Silver Kelp, 5x Bronze Kelp, 10x Scrap — earn blueprint after reaching Farming LV.2
• Mayonnaise Machine: 20x Wood, 20x Scrap, 2x Bronze Bar — earn blueprint after reaching Ranching LV.2
• Keg: 20x Wood, 1x Bronze Bar, 1x Silver Bar, 20x Scrap — earn blueprint after reaching Farming LV.4
• Yogurt Machine: 25x Scrap, 30x Stone, 2x Silver Bar — earn blueprint after reaching Ranching LV.4
• Extractor: 20x Scrap, 20x Bronze Kelp, 40x Wood — earn blueprint after accepting “The Extractor” quest.
• Scrap Arch: 5x Scrap — earn blueprint after reaching Diving LV.5.
• Scrap Fence: 1x Scrap — earn blueprint after reaching Diving LV.3
• Scrap Floor Tile: 2x Scrap — earn blueprint after reaching Diving LV.3.
