Whether it’s true or not, ONI is reporting that Master Chief has died in the line of duty. It’s not unlikely, as our helmeted hero certainly has had his fair share of bullets and grenades lobbed at him. Frankly, he’s been pushing his luck for a while now.

In the live-action television ad for Halo 5, we watch as humanity emotionally bands together upon hearing the news. They morph from grief-stricken to “we’re mad as hell and we’re not gonna take it anymore” within a matter of seconds. Master Chief meant a lot to everybody, obviously.

Of course, there’s a great possibility that the fabled Spartan hasn’t passed away. Consider that Master Chief went rogue and ONI is spreading lies to cover it up. In the lead-up to Halo 5‘s October 27 launch, season two of the Hunt the Truth podcast is unraveling some of the mystery and conspiracy theory behind the game’s events. Things probably aren’t nearly as straight-forward as they seem.

Besides, as we learned earlier in the series, “Spartans never die. They’re just Missing in Action.”
