When is Warzone Caldera shutting down?

Say goodbye to the Pacific and say hello to Urzikstan.

For a time, Call of Duty: Warzone offered players three different versions in total of the battle royale game. The original Warzone, previously called Warzone 2.0, Warzone Caldera, and even Warzone Mobile all existed simultaneously for a time. But that all changed with the shut down of Warzone Caldera, which could be considered the original beloved title.

Warzone Caldera shut down date, explained

Activision previously announced the official Warzone Caldera shut down date on June 22, 2023. By the time you are reading this, the Caldera map and everything about the original version of the Call of Duty battle royale experience is already gone. Its online servers shut down for good on September 21, 2023, and are no longer available at this time.

This means the Caldera Pacific island map, the battle passes from that game, its seasons, and even some of the weapons you could use in battle royale no longer exist in the current form of Warzone. That said, any cosmetic items you bought in shut down game continue to exist across the respective titles, including Modern Warfare 2019, Black Ops Cold War, and Vanguard.

If you purchased goods like operators and weapon blueprints to use in Caldera before it’s shut down, you should still be able to use those items in its connected game for the foreseeable future. In addition, your progression, such as ranks and levels should also continue in the other titles.

If you want to enjoy large-scale battle royale matches from now on, you’ll need to download the current version of Warzone and play there.

Will the Warzone Caldera map ever return?

With the shutdown of Warzone Caldera, the Caldera Pacific map is unavailable to play. While not everyone loved this unique and detailed locale, some might want to return to it. For now, no news exists for a potential return of this map in the future. In fact, Activision doesn’t seem to be a fan of older battle royale maps returning.

Even fan-favorite maps like Verdansk no longer exist in the core console and PC battle royale experience. That said, not all hope is lost. There is a chance Caldera could come back, but in Warzone Mobile. Verdansk is the main map for the mobile battle royale game in its current beta form in countries like Australia. It is possible Caldera could also return there in the future. Unfortunately, this may take some time since the official worldwide release isn’t until April 30, 2024, according to its iOS page.
