Whether you’re a long-time player or a relative newcomer, Destiny 2 fans are in for a treat as Bungie is bringing Zero Hour back to the game. But when exactly is its release date? Well, below we not only have the answer to that question, but also a quick rundown for newer players on what Zero Hour even is.
When is Zero Hour coming back to Destiny 2?
Zero Hour arrives in Destiny 2 on May 14 according to Bungie’s own website, though at the time of writing Bungie hasn’t provided an exact time for its addition. This comes as part of the wider Into the Light update, which began back in April and is free for all players.
You’ll be able to access Zero Hour via the Into the Light node in the Director, and completing it earns you the new craftable version of the Outbreak Perfected Exotic Pulse Rifle.
What is Zero Hour in Destiny 2?
For anyone unfamiliar with it or in need of a reminder, Zero Hour is an Exotic mission that was originally added to Destiny 2 as part of the Forsaken expansion, specifically during its Season of the Drifter in 2019. Zero Hour was particularly special since it was a secret mission, meaning it was added to the game with little to no pre-release info; players had to figure out how to unlock and complete it by themselves. It involves fending off a horde of the Fallen and clearing a puzzle-filled maze while avoiding a very dangerous security robot called Trevor (TR3-VR to be exact), culminating in a boss fight against Fallen captain Siriks, Loyal to Eramis.
To date, Zero Hour is regarded by some as one of the best Exotic missions in Destiny 2‘s history, so it was a bummer to see it removed from the game in 2020. While its reintroduction is perfect for those who missed out on Zero Hour the first time, veterans should still expect some surprises if they plan on playing it again. Bungie will also be adding two difficulty options, with Normal difficulty tasking players to clear the mission in 40 minutes and Legend difficulty cutting that time limit down to 20 minutes. If you manage to beat it on Legend difficulty, you’ll receive an Exotic catalyst for the Outbreak Perfected Exotic Pulse Rifle (unless you already own it obviously).
