It’s a required story section: you can’t miss it
Adding a full-on blaster-based playstyle into a Jedi game is interesting (despite being done before in various bits of the lore – Hello there!), and Respawn did just that with Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Cal Cestis can now fire away with a recharging blaster pistol, which ended up becoming my personal favorite way to play for the rest of the adventure. Here’s when you unlock it, and what the blaster style actually entails.
You’ll get the blaster stance in Jedi Survivor once you reach the planet of Jedah
Shortly after landing in Jedah (which happens roughly 10 hours into the game, likely less if you’re focusing on story missions), you’ll unlock the blaster stance. Bode (one of the game’s companions) will give you a blaster and teach you how to use it.
This is a scripted/required event, and after a short tutorial on a Stormtrooper dummy, you’ll be good to go and can select the blaster stance as one of your two equippable stances from that point onward.
What can you do with the blaster style and how does it work in Jedi: Survivor?
Billed as a high-range but low-power stance, “blaster” allows you to fire off blaster shots at enemies and adopt a ranged style completely separate from your Force powers.
Like the other stances in the game, this is a fully-encompassing playstyle, which involves one hand holding a lightsaber and the other holding a blaster. You’ll use your lightsaber attacks to actually charge said blaster, and fire bullets with the Triangle (Y) button; which doubles as your “heavy/special” attack button in other stances. Holding down Triangle/Y will allow you to charge shots, which can be further upgraded using the game’s skill tree (or through perks).
