He who controls the Red Dust controls the universe
Many different end-game features are available once finishing the campaign of Diablo 4. While most are focused around PvE, there is actually a mode based around PvP. The mode is called Fields of Hatred and allows players to engage in PvP against each other when in the specialized area. With this new feature comes new systems and currencies, like Red Dust.
So what is Red Dust?
How do the Fields of Hatred work?
First, in order to understand Red Dust, we need to understand how the PvP mode works in general. There are two actual Fields of Hatred areas ā one in the Dry Steppes and one in Kehjistan ā both of which recommend Level 50 before entering. Both locations show as red-tinted zones on the world map.
Once there you will be able to kill monsters and complete activities in the area in order to obtain Seeds of Hatred. If you’re feeling strong enough to compete in PvP, you can look for other players and hunt them down. Killing them will cause them to drop their Seeds of Hatred, allowing you to reap the rewards of their activities in the Fields of Hatred. Be careful though. If you fall in combat, you too will drop your seeds.
Once you’ve acquired some Seeds of Hatred it’s time to head to an Altar of Extraction. Interacting with the Altar will start a channeled process of depositing the seeds and crushing them. However, once you start to channel at the Altar, others in the Fields are notified of your activities.
How to get Red Dust and what it’s used for
Once you’ve successfully deposited your Seeds of Hatred at an Altar of Extraction, it smashes into Red Dust. Unlike the seeds, Red Dust does not drop on death.
Now that you have the Red Dust currency, head to the local town adjacent to the Fields of Hatred. Here you will find special vendors that sell unique cosmetics for both you and your horse in exchange for Red Dust.
You can also find a vendor identical to the Curiosities vendor in Kyovashad. However, this vendor allows you to gamble your Red Dust for gear as opposed to Murmuring Obols. Now you know what Red Dust in Diablo 4 is actually used for! If you’re not interested in PvP or cosmetics, you can easily farm Murmuring Obols in PvE for the same potential rewards.
