What is Explosive Ammo in MW3?

Don't get too close to these explosive rounds.

Understanding Call of Duty’s Weekly Challenges can be a bit of a puzzle, especially when the game throws in some vague terminology. One such challenge involves the use of Explosive Ammo, a unique item that only works with few weapons. Let’s demystify what Explosive Ammo is in Modern Warfare 3.

How to get Operator Kills while using Explosive Ammo in MW3

To get an Explosive Ammo kill in MW3, use a Launcher or place a 12 Gauge Explosive Ammunition attachment on a Shotgun. It doesn’t matter which Launcher you use since they all have this particular ammo attached.

The RGL-80 is the best weapon for the Explosive Ammo challenge due to its high damage rates and excellent range. It can also help you with other Modern Warfare 3 Season 4 Week 4 objectives. For example, the RGL-80 can be beneficial with the ‘Get 3 Operator Double Kills with Grenades or Launchers’ or ‘Get 3 Operator Kills after Death.’

If you’re a Shotgun enthusiast, you can add the Explosive Ammo in the Gunsmith. However, keep in mind that you’ll need to unlock the 12 Gauge Explosive Ammo first. This can be done by completing specific challenges for the gun.

It may take a while to achieve the MW3 Weekly Challenges with this weapon, as the Shotgun is limited in range. Those who want to speed up the process will likely need to use the Launcher.

Although the Explosive Ammo for the Crossbow should work, players have discovered that this ammunition doesn’t count toward the challenge. You can still try it out to see if it works, but it doesn’t seem to be part of this task.
