There are a ton of different items in Starfield, each with its own varying uses. Some are just junk to sell, while others are resources that you use for crafting and manufacturing. Every item type can have one of four specific rarities or qualities. Usually, this indicates how easy or hard an item is to find. Furthermore, for equipment items such as Weapons and Spacesuits, the quality is often indicative of its strength. For example, an exotic quality weapon is typically stronger than a common quality weapon and often has more bonuses and status effects on it. We have put together a guide to detail the four rarities of items inĀ Starfield and explain the differences between the qualities.
Common quality items
InĀ Starfield, common quality items are the most basic items you can find. You can typically find these items in abundance scattered throughout the various systems and should have no problem finding a specific common item if you need to.
For Weapons, Spacesuits, Packs, and Helmets, common items are probably not going to see much use. You will probably want to aim for higher-quality items in that regard.
However, in terms of Resources, Aid items, and Misc items, expect a lot of useful common quality items. A lot of common quality resources are used to create outposts and ship modules, manufacture goods, and even craft new gear.
Uncommon quality items
You’ll find uncommon quality items scattered with common quality items, especially when it comes to mining Resources.
For equipment, some of my most used Weapons and Spacesuits are of uncommon quality, as you’ll find them more plentiful than the rarer qualities.
Rare quality items
Once we delve into rare quality items, we start to see the true strengths of rarity inĀ Starfield.
Rare-quality Weapons and Spacesuits usually have modifiers and attachments that make them strong or specifically useful in unique situations. I often find rare quality Weapons that inflict fire or corrosive damage-over-time effects, which is very useful.
You’ll want to hang on to any rare or exotic quality Resources you find, as you don’t know when you may need them next and may not be able to easily track them down.
Exotic quality items
Finally, we have the exotic quality items. Unlike the previous qualities, exotic items are typically tougher to find. For resources, exotic quality items will make the highest level outposts and ship modules as well as manufactured goods.
Although you can technically find exotic quality items anywhere, exotic Resources are typically found in caves and areas near Artifacts.
Also, equipment of exotic quality is typically the strongest. Usually, this quality of equipment has added status effects and bonuses, making it worthwhile even after outpacing it level-wise.
Now that you know what are the four rarities of items in Starfield, and all qualities have been explained, it’s time to start searching for the best exotic quality items you can find.
