Well, this is just Trubbish. The Van Gogh Museum, which recently held a Pokemon collab that got a bit hectic, announced it will no longer distribute its Pikachu promo card at the physical exhibit starting October 14. If you want the Pikachu in Grey Felt Hat collaboration card, you’ll have to shop online for a qualifying purchase.
As spotted by PokeJungle, the Van Gogh Museum explained it’s no longer offering the Pikachu in Grey Felt Hat promo card in person thanks to “a small group of individuals” it says “created an undesirable situation.” Without the chaos around the card giveaway, the museum believes fans can visit the Pokemon exhibit in a safe, enjoyable experience.
However, the Pokemon Center will have the Pikachu card available later for online shoppers in the USA, Canada, and the UK, but no date was given. It will also go to various retailers in the Netherlands sometime next year.
The Museum also notes it’s still selling merchandise at the exhibit; it’s just the Van Gogh Pikachu dropping from its offerings. Those items are up in its online store, too. Restocks happen weekly, so don’t panic if the Van Gogh Museum’s online store hits you with an “out of stock” notice.
Can’t Catch a Break
When the Pokemon exhibit was announced late September, many were in love with the concept. I mean, who doesn’t want to see a Post-Impressionist painting of Snorlax? As always, there were people who saw it as a means to make a quick buck. So, when the event happened, droves of people flooded the Amsterdam museum to get their hands on merch, causing quite a stir. This led to the Van Gogh Museum pausing sales and an apology from the Pokemon Company.
The exhibit is still around, so if you do want to go as a real fan, tickets are still available. The Pokemon x Van Gogh event runs until January 7.
