[Update: Izanagi Studios has released the first teaser trailer for Death Come True. You can check it out at the foot of the article.]

Izanagi Studios continues to drip feed cast and plot details for Death Come True, the upcoming FMV adventure penned by Danganronpa’s Kazutaka Kodaka. And this newly-revealed cast member while hit some hard nostalgia buttons for movie buffs.

Chiaki Kuriyama might be recognisable to western audiences thanks to her unforgettable performance in Kinji Fukusaku’s 2000 movie Battle Royale, where Kuriyama portrayed switchblade-wielding track athlete Takako Chigusa. Kuriyama’s powerful on-screen charisma was noted by Quentin Tarantino, who then cast her as schoolgirl assassin Go-Go Yubari in wild 2003 action flick Kill Bill: Vol 1.

In Death Come True, Kuriyama portrays police investigator Akane Sachimura, who is found tied and unconscious in the bathtub of amnesiac protagonist Makoto Karaki, the latter of whom has awakened in a strange hotel room to find he’s inexplicably wanted for murder. Death Come True will tell a winding tale of multiple characters, blending “movie and game” in a style that sounds instantly familiar to those who suffered through the FMV era of the mid-’90s.

Death Come True will launch in Japan sometime next year. No platforms or plans for a western localisation have been revealed as of yet. Hopefully we’ll get a trailer of this strange-but-intriguing title soon.
