It’s finally, FINALLY happening
Following an incredibly lengthy and very tumultuous production cycle, Sony Pictures has finally released the first trailer for its upcoming movie adaptation of Naughty Dog’s beloved adventure series, Uncharted.
The Uncharted movie will tell the tale of the young rogue Nathan Drake, (Tom Holland), as he embarks on the first of what will be many death-defying adventures into the unscored corners of the universe, gathering treasures and lost artifacts under the watchful tutelage of mentor Victor “Sully” Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg). Among a double-barrelled blast of action on land, underwater, and high in the raging skies, we also catch our first glimpses of Drake’s long-time frenemy Chloe Frazer (Sophia Ali), as well as new characters portrayed by Antonio Banderas and Tati Gabrielle.
Originally planned as far back as 2009, Sony’s Uncharted movie has navigated a hazardous path worthy of Drake himself in order to reach the big screen.Ā Schedule woes, casting drama, a revolving door of directors and writers, as well as the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic have all thrown up numerous hurdles to prevent the project from reaching fruition. But it seems that the time for talking is over, the production has wrapped, and Uncharted will finally, finally be hitting the big screen this February.
Generic_Trailer_Template_1 aside, this actually doesn’t look too bad. I don’t think anybody ā especially Sony itself ā is expecting much more than some high-concept action sequences, a little drama, some dreadful quipping, and sub-007 scenarios. It appears from this preview that Uncharted is going to deliver all of that as required. For better or worse ā the movie seems set to adequately fulfill its duty of being harmless Friday Night Fun for weekend cinemagoers.
We’ll find out soon enough. Uncharted premieres in theatres, worldwide, February 18.
