Um…this Resident Evil 4 mod has a harbor seal instead of Ada Wong

Seal of approval.

Say what you will about the likes of Resident Evil 4, its iconic B-movie cheese means it’s a game that doesn’t take itself too seriously. However, there’s being flippant about certain aspects of your IP and…whatever’s going on with this mod.

If you want to see the kinds of things people do to mess about with their favorite games, look no further than Nexus Mods user SupremeLeader777. For some reason, they’ve decided to take Ada Wong from Resident Evil 4‘s “Separate Ways” DLC and swap out her character model for that of a harbor seal.

If there’s any rationale behind it, they’re not saying so on the download page. The images suggest it’s exactly as you would imagine: RE4 Remake with a seal instead of Ada running (flapping?) around the place.

You can almost hear the slapping sounds

As far as I can tell, it’s still the same DLC content – still the same game – just you play as a slippery, Arctic mammal instead of the infamous mercenary. If you go through SupremeLeader777’s other mods, you’ll see this is not the first instance of swapping the vanilla character out for someone (or something) else. It’s the appeal of modding, I guess.

A couple of days ago, I wrote about how someone has made it possible to play RE4 in first-person without needing a headset. One might argue this is quite a nifty download for anyone who hasn’t got – and/or can’t afford – VR.

That’s not to say anything negative about the Ada Wong/seal mod. Seeing the silly things people in the community do is one of the reasons I love talking about modding. But now all I can think about is whether the harbor seal speaks in Wong’s voice, or the audio has been replaced by “arfs” instead.
