Our Top 11 Favorite Disney Puzzles (Ranked Worst To Best)

Big or small, there's a puzzle for all

Jigsaw puzzles can be an amazing way to destress in your downtime or a source of frustration as you try to fit the pieces together in their intended configuration. However you look at it, it’s weirdly cathartic to take the pieces and put them back together to create something pretty.

If you’re a Disney fan, there are a truly enormous number of jigsaw puzzles out there waiting to be put together, and it can be hard to pick out the best of them. I’ve scoured the depths of the internet, made the mistake of visiting the toy store with a four-year-old who is now the proud owner of her owl puzzle collection, taken some recommendations, and picked out my favorites of the bunch.

Here are my top 11, and one honorable mention, but more on that later.

11. The Greatest Disney Collection

Piece count: 9,000

Starting off with the biggest of my main contenders, this absolutely massive Greatest Disney Collection jigsaw puzzle will eventually end up measuring 78 inches by 37 inches when fully put together. It acts as a timeline of events in the Disney world, with Steamboat Willy getting his own feature alongside characters from every generation of Disney until the late 1990s.

This one isn’t one to dive into lightly, and the size makes it slightly problematic to leave out when you don’t have time to sit down and focus on it, especially if you have children or animals who like to take things apart. But, once it’s done, it will make one hell of a talking point with your fellow Disney-loving friends.

10. Deco-Luxe Collage

Piece count: 1,000

Featuring much-loved characters from many of Disney’s more successful movies in an Art Deco style, this Deco-Luxe Collage puzzle is slightly more achievable in a short space of time than the previous entry. Minnie and Mickey are joined by Simba, Woody, Moana, Snow White, and Elsa, with each character having their own specific color scheme. Each character is also joined in their little section by other iconic characters from their respective silver screen outing.

9. Disney-Pixar Toy Store

Piece count: 1,000

I love images that reveal more of themselves every time you look, and this Disney-Pixar Toy Store jigsaw puzzle is filled with Disney characters and definitely gives that feeling. There are tiny hidden details everywhere you look, and characters from Disney movies of every generation litter the scene. From Thumper and Bambi, to Rex and Bullseye, you’re sure to find something new every time you sneak a peek at the completed puzzle.

8. 3D Disney Castle

Piece count: 216

Moving away from flat art, this puzzle gives you the opportunity to build your very own 3D Disney Castle with a twist. It’s not just the castle itself that you get from building this puzzle, but littered around the walls and windows are over 100 much-loved Disney characters. The finished puzzle becomes a piece of art that shows something new from every angle, and the low piece count means this can be completed in an afternoon.

When fully built, this Disney castle measures 19.5 inches tall, so you might want to clear off some shelf space for the completed project.

7. Disney Best Themes Stained Glass

Piece count: 1,000

If you’re a fan of classic Disney, when hand-drawn animation won out over computer-aided creations, then this beautiful stained glass puzzle might be more to your taste. Each small section of the Best Themes Stained Glass design features characters from a different classic Disney tale, with the Sensational Six taking up the universally recognized Mickey head in the middle. There are details hidden within details, and this is another one that will give you something new to look at every time.

6. Disney Treasures from The Vault: Pluto

I have a certain soft spot for vintage advertisements and movie posters, and this selection of classic Pluto feature posters conjoined into one Treasures From The Vault puzzle certainly ticks off a lot of boxes for me. It’s nostalgic for a time that I absolutely was not around for, but also a slice of pop culture history rolled into one. Pluto is often underappreciated as a member of the Sensational Six, but he takes center stage here in glorious form.

5. Stitch Puzzle Ball

Piece count: 77

While the rest of the jigsaw puzzles on this list are aimed at adults and older children, this one is definitely more aimed towards a younger audience, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be enjoyed by an older audience as well. I mean, who doesn’t love the lovable and slightly problematic alien Stitch? While the ears aren’t technically part of the puzzle itself, they do click on the finished 7-inch Puzzle Ball to complete the character. This is a great puzzle to keep children entertained when it’s raining outside.

4. Disney Villains Tour Posters

Piece count: 1,500

While the main characters of Disney movies arguably get all of the love, each movie has its own villain who can easily become a beloved character to those watching. This Disney Villains puzzle features individual “tour” posters in a style that reflects the style of the villain they’re centered around. One small detail I love about this puzzle is the “tour dates” are actually the year that the movie was originally released, and locations from the movies are the tour destinations.

3. Irregular Shape Disney Castle

Piece count: 200

Don’t let the low piece count fool you into thinking that this is going to be easy to put together because it comes with a whole pile of Disney-themed irregularly shaped pieces to find homes for. Even the ‘regular’ pieces aren’t the classic “knob and socket” shape that we’ve all come to associate with puzzles, so this might take you longer than you expect.

The final result is worth it though, with the iconic Disney castle backlit by a Mickey Mouse shaped moon, and Minnie and Mickey having a romantic moment in a rowing boat downstream. The basically all-blue color scheme is broken up by the illuminated castle, and this puzzle definitely has that “Disney magic” feeling.

2. Mickey’s Dream Fantasy

Piece count: 500

This is the smallest finished 2D puzzle to feature on this list, measuring only 13 by 19 inches when complete. However, while it’s small, it’s packed with small details and reminds me of Fantasia, in a way. What tips this one over into the number one spot is the fact that it glows in the dark, and that just gives anything an edge.

Mickey’s Dream Fantasy features Mickey asleep in bed with the ghostly characters from past Disney movies floating around him as though they fill his dreams. Characters from more underrated movies like The Fox and the Hound, Robin Hood, and The Rescuers all feature alongside arguably better-known characters, but all of them deserve their time in the spotlight.

1. Mickey Mouse Silhouette Puzzle

Piece count: 945

There is possibly no more iconic image for the world of Disney than Mickey Mouse. I mean, he started off the whole phenomenon as Steamboat Willy and has gone on to be more universally recognized than perhaps any other character, and definitely any other mouse, in the world. This Mickey Mouse Silhouette Puzzle is not only in the overall shape of Mickey, but also made up of singular images of the mouse himself. There are also irregular Mickey-shaped pieces within the Mickey-shaped puzzle, so there’s a whole lot of Mickey going on.

Honorable mention: Disney Memorable Moments

Piece count: 40,320

While it’s not the biggest jigsaw puzzle I’ve ever heard about (the record for the biggest ever puzzle was 551, 232 pieces, for those interested), I definitely can’t recommend this 6 foot by 22 foot giant for a relaxing afternoon spent puzzling. Perhaps a lifetime, but that seems like a commitment that I shouldn’t push anyone towards. Of course, a puzzle this big comes with a fairly hefty price tag, too, and spending $600 on a puzzle seems like something I shouldn’t really recommend.

However, I’m mentioning it here because it feels wrong to write a list of the best Disney puzzles without including this absolutely gorgeous, beautiful, memorable Moment puzzle. It features 10 different scenes from classic Disney tales, and I actually recognize some of them from puzzles I owned as a child. I spent hours building and taking apart that Bambi scene, for example. Of course my version didn’t have this many pieces, but the image itself is incredibly nostalgic.
