You’ve got a massive chunk of the universe to explore in Starfield, but where do you go first? You can land on most planets and moons that aren’t made of gas, but you’ll also find that a good percentage of them are completely barren, making it difficult to locate the most exciting spots to visit. If you’re looking for some direction as you begin your space adventure, try visiting the Starfield planets on this list.
5. Nesoi
As you explore the cosmos, you’ll notice most planets are nothing but rocks, and it’s pretty rare to find a beautiful place. When you find a gorgeous planet, consider building an outpost there to make returns easier.
Nesoi is a planet you won’t forget soon thanks to its varied environments that are a pleasure to explore, including lush forests and high hills. It doesn’t have too many resources, but you will find plenty of scenic views. The planet is located in the Olympus star system.
4. Schrodinger 3
A very small percentage of planets contain life, and it’s all very primitive. Most of the time, if you ignore the wildlife, they’ll do the same. However, there are a few planets featuring aggressive creatures. You’ll find some of them on Akila, but you should also visit Schrodinger 3 if you want to test your abilities against some of the most vicious creatures Starfield can throw at you. Schrodinger 3 is located in the Schrodinger system which is near Kryx.
3. Mars
The Red Planet has been a centrepiece of sci-fi, and in Starfield, humanity has finally managed to make a permanent settlement. Visit it, and you’ll find Cydonia, which is small but contains plenty of interesting characters. You’ll get to visit Mars during one of the main missions in the early hours of the game, but don’t forget to return to explore it fully.
You can find NASA’s Opportunity Rover, which is one of several references the game makes to the space organisation and its numerous achievements. If you’re interested in seeing the rover, complete the Unearthed main mission which has you visiting NASA’s old facilities on Earth.
2. Earth
During your adventures, taking a pit stop at Sol, our solar system, is a good idea. It’s not hard to find Earth, though it looks very different. Progress through the story, and you’ll discover what happened to our home.
It’s a bittersweet feeling to explore a barren planet, though not everything is dead. If you find books on other planets, you can pinpoint landmarks such as the Pyramids of Giza that have endured. While you’re in the area, don’t forget to visit Earth’s moon for some beautiful views of the Milky Way.
1. Volii Alpha
Head to the Volii system and you’ll find Volii Alpha. Most of the planet is an ocean, but the one settlement on it, called Neon, makes it one of the most interesting places to visit. Neon is a city driven by vices and pleasure. It’s in the control of Xenofresh which fishes the water for a special fish that produces a psychoactive substance called Aurora.
There are bright lights, plenty to see, and tons of drugs to experience. Talk to NPCs and you’ll discover more about the city’s seedy underground. Head to the lounge, and you can try some Aurora while listening to trendy music. Neon feels like an entire game within a game and once you land, you may find it hard to leave.
With over a thousand planets and moons to explore, there’ll surely be more amazing planets that players discover. To make the most of these planets, you’ll have to get a hang of the game’s outpost-building mechanics, which can get complicated.
