The Unidentified Contaminant quest in Throne and Liberty is an exploration quest in Windhill Shores that involves identifying a mysterious substance near the shoreline. Despite our character’s lack of experience in marine biology, the world has decided it’s our job to figure it out.
How to complete the Unidentified Contaminant quest in Throne and Liberty
There are four main parts to completing the Unidentified Contaminant quest in Throne and Liberty:
- Talk to the Windhill Shores Researcher at Spiral Cliff.
- Acquire a Magical Reagent.
- Glide Morph and spray the Unidentified Contaminant on the east side of the Spiral Cliff, without touching the seawater, in under one minute.
- Defeat a Large Stone Crab that is Wet from rain or seawater.
Talk to the Windhill Shores Researcher
You’ll begin the quest by talking to the researcher at the windmill on Spiral Cliff. You’ll spot a quest marker on your map indicating its presence, allowing you to have your first conversation with the NPC.
The Windhill Shores Researcher will tell you about the contaminated beings of Windhill Shores, including an unknown one by the sea. Your character will volunteer to help, prompting the researcher to tell you that the magic potion is sensitive to seawater and must arrive at the contaminated spot within 30 seconds. First, we need to grab the potion before gliding down.
Acquire a Magical Reagent
After your conversation with the Windhill Shores Researcher, turn directly to your left to find a shelf full of magical reagents. Fortunately, the magic potion you need is right on this shelf. Interact with it to pick up the reagent, quickly knocking out this next task.
Spray the Unidentified Contaminant
Spraying the Unidentified Contaminant is where this quest gets tricky. Starting from the researcher’s location, turn east until you face the blue quest marker and glide down until you spot three wooden platforms.
Don’t worry about getting to all three; focus on the largest one and descend to it once you’re directly above it. From here, interact with it using the magical reagent to finish the objective.
Defeat a Large Stone Crab that is Wet from rain or seawater
The final and arguably most difficult part of this quest is finding a large stone crab that’s wet. They’re a common enemy around Windhill Shores and usually roam around the coastline. You usually use these guys to farm for fishing bait, but for now, we just need to eliminate one.
How you do this will depend on whether it’s raining. If it’s raining, you’re in luck, as the crab will already be wet. You can eliminate them from here and wrap up the quest.
If it isn’t raining, you’ll have to lure the large stone crab into the water. Thankfully, you’re surrounded by water in Windhill Shores, so finding some won’t be too difficult. Hit the crab with a regular attack to draw aggro before running into the water, allowing it to step in and wait for the “Wet” status to appear under its health bar. Once the status appears as a water drop icon, you can attack it with everything you’ve got until you defeat it.
