Many massive live-service games are infamous for errors and bugs during their initial launches, with Throne and Liberty having a notable black screen issue. While it doesn’t affect everyone, there is a chance you’ll encounter this, preventing you from getting past the UE logo upon opening the game.
How to fix black screen error in Throne and Liberty
There are two sources of the black screen error in Throne and Liberty: client-side errors involving graphics drivers and connection issues and server-side problems for NCSoft and Amazon to resolve. The former has some quick and easy fixes, while the latter requires waiting for NCSoft and Amazon to tackle the problem and release a hotfix.
The solution for the black screen error also partially depends on your platform. How you fix this on PC will differ from that on PlayStation or Xbox. Nonetheless, here are a few solutions to try:
- Restart Throne and Liberty.
- Restart your console, Steam, or PC, depending on your platform.
- Verify your game files.
- Restart your router.
- Swap to a VPN.
- Update your graphics drivers.
- Wait for PSN to come back online if it’s down. (PlayStation only)
- Wait for the servers to come back up if they’re down.
- Head into your game files and delete saved data. (Start > Manage Game > Add-ons > Saved Data)
This seems like a lot at first, and admittedly, it is. A solution that works for one person won’t necessarily work for another, especially on different platforms where the source may be server-side or connection issues. Fortunately, the odds that at least one of these fixes will work are fairly high.
Unfortunately, it may also be a server-side issue on Amazon and NCSoft’s end. You can check whether this is the case by checking Throne and Liberty’s official Server Status page and Game Status pages on social media platforms like Twitter (X). Although they’re not guaranteed to fix this particular bug, these are go-to spots for details on the latest errors and hotfix updates.
