‘That is so cute…’
Star Fox Zero finally launched this month and had the reception of a wet fart in a lift. Fans of Fox McCloud might be sad Zero turned out to be such a dud, but animator, and voice actor Matthew Gafford has saved the day with the first episode of his fantastic animated series, A Fox in Space.
This 13-minute long episode is seriously impressive when you consider almost everything was done by Gafford himself. Other people did help with some elements of production, but on the whole, this was Gafford’s solo project. And dang can he do a good Wolf O’Donnell. The episode also answers the age-old question of whether Fox has robo-legs or not, so that’s something.
Nintendo has already taken shots at A Fox in Space during its development, meaning work in progress clips released over the years featured “Faulks MacLeod” and “Wolfgang O’Donald”. However, the finished product has been released as a not-for-profit parody, and so should be protected, even if it’s back to using the names we know and love.
Saying that, this is Nintendo, and its copyright protection is nothing if not arbitrary and ruthless. Hopefully it doesn’t get antsy by this, because I’d love to see a second episode.
