It costs more than peanuts, though
Comic strips are three-panel bundles of joy. Well, sometimes. The likes of Calvin and Hobbes, The Far Side, and Dilbert fit the bill. Marmaduke does not. Marmaduke has only brought pain and suffering to those you love.
As far as these things go, Peanuts is pretty darn great. Charlie Brown and Friends is a classic by any measure, something so heart-warming in its innocence and its innocent mischievousness. And, there’s a romantic perfection to creator Charles M. Schulz dying in his sleep the night before the last strip ran, going out with the thing he dedicated most of his life to.
Through merchandising, Peanuts lives on. Everyone’s out for a payday. That’s why there’s a new Activision-published game titled The Peanuts Movie: Snoopy’s Grand Adventure. It ties in with, you guessed it, The Peanuts Movie.
Judging by this trailer, it looks kind of okay. It’s like if Yoshi’s Woolly World were put in less capable hands. Snoopy underwater, Snoopy on the moon, Snoopy in a jungle — that all seems like it nicely captures the rampant imagination of the lovable dog and bird sidekick.
This isn’t some little downloadable budget title, though. It runs $50 which feels like a hefty price tag. Nostalgia is king in 2015, and the movie may find its way into the hearts of a lot of people. The game, however, likely will not because that’s an expensive investment in hopes that Lucy doesn’t yank the football away at the last second.
