Yep Yep Yep Yep Yep Yep Uh Huh
Do sex scenes in videogames ever arouse you or do they just look like two action figures rubbing their crotches together? Or both? If you’re said “yes” or “both” to those questions then you’re in luck. The upcoming action RPG The Witcher 3 will have plenty of sex in it. While we don’t know how many hours of coitus will actually occur in-game, we do know that the developers recorded 16 hours of just simulated sex motion capture footage for the production. We’ll see soon enough how many of those throbbing, grinding, groaning animations make it into the final release.
On top of that, the game opens with a sex scene, but that’s not just for shock value and or titillation points. Oh heck no. According to senior designer Damien Monnier, that first sexual encounter is there for “…establishing that your character was intimate with this woman recently in order to plant in your mind that, at very least, he must enjoy her company. Through sex we have shown that this is a person who Geralt would be compelled to chase after if she went missing. Sex is the quickest way in which to establish the relationship and provide a justification for the player to pursue this woman. We couldn’t just tell you to go find someone you don’t know or care about. It wouldn’t work.”
Does that sound off to you? I know a lot of people who have sex with folks that they don’t like that much, let alone care about. Besides, there are plenty of other ways to establish a relationship and/or motivation for rescue other than porking. For instance, take a look at Taken, or even Tak3n. No porking there, but emotion to spare.
I’ll reserve judgement for after The Witcher 3 is actually out, but in the meantime, I can’t help but think Mr. Monnier would have been better served by stating that he just loves watching his characters screw and be done with it.
