Update 8.0 earns the ‘.0’

Late last night in the US evening, as is customary with Nintendo, a big Switch update arrived. It’s titled version “8.0.0,” and brings a few welcome additions to the table.

The most impactful one right out of the gate is enhanced sorting features for your “all software” list. You can now sort games by title, publisher, total play time, and time last played. As a reminder it’ll appear once 13 or more games are on the list (I remember when I reached this mark fairly early on into reviewing the Switch hardware, it was pretty wild).

Although news channels aren’t getting their own sorting options you can now similarly “view all” for the channels you have available. Save data transfer is another huge long-requested feature that made it into 8.0.0. You head to system settings, data management, then transfer your data from console to console.

Other ancillary type additions include 15 new profile icons (spanning Yoshi’s Crafted World and Splatoon 2), a system settings zoom feature, a “don’t wake up the system when it’s not connected to an AC adapter” option handy for traveling, VR parental restriction controls (Nintendo says kids shouldn’t use Labo VR until they’re seven years old), and support for additional system regions (South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong).

Not too shabby!
