So long, EA Sports
With EA Sports holding the licensing rights for the PGA Tour, it was impossible for other devs to include PGA endorsement in their games. This lack of attention to detail was a big damper on how authentic a golf game could get, though things seem to have shifted. Developer HB Studios announced the other day that The Golf Club 2019 will feature a career mode based on the PGA Tour with official support from the organization.
Along with a more authentic golf experience, the PGA Tour endorsement will include real-world courses for the first time, hopefully bringing TPC Sawgrass, Pebble Beach and St. Andrews with it. The game will be sporting a more robust character creator and have additional tools for course creation (with the series standard cross-platform sharing).
While there is no release date set, you can watch the trailer to get a look at some of the upgrades over the previous release. I’ve been dying for a good golf game in the absence of Tiger Woods’ PGA Tour, so I’m down for this.
