The First Descendant: Hanged Man boss fight guide

It's all in the Cube

The final boss encounter in the Normal difficulty mode of The First Descendant is the Hanged Man, the first fight that requires players to do its mechanics as opposed to just quickly DPSing down the boss. We’ve put together this Hanged Man boss fight guide to help you beat the boss and provide you with a strategy for the encounter mechanics.

It’s important to note that unless you have insane damage output, the Hanged Man boss cannot simply be zerged down to avoid mechanics. You will have to know the mechanics of the encounter in order to survive and defeat the boss. The primary mechanic for this encounter involves running around with the cube item found in the middle. Here is how to beat the Hanged Man:

Running the Cube

Located in the center of the arena with the boss encounter is a pedestal with a small cube on it. This cube is actually an essential part of the Hanged Man boss fight. In order to properly deal with this mechanic, one player should be designated as ‘The Runner’. Ideally, this will be a faster descendant.

When you start fighting the Hanged Man you will see a 10-minute timer. Every two minutesā€”starting at the 8-minute markā€”you will need to properly run the cube. What that means is a player will have to go up to the cube and pick it up, and then begin running around the arena as the Hanged Man will begin throwing AOE attacks at the runner. If no one picks up the cube in time, the Hanged Man will wipe the entire group and you will have to start over.

During this time, the Hanged Man will initially become immune to attacks. However, as the runner continues to run around with the cube, the boss will start thrashing around, revealing a sensor weak spot inside of his mouth.

All players except for the runner need to focus damage on this sensor to eventually break a part of the Hanged Man’s mouth. Successfully break his mouth twice, and then the runner can place the cube back on the pedestal in the middle, and return to DPSING. Just remember to make note of the timer, as a new two-minute countdown will start to when you need to run the cube again.

You should only have to do this once or twice depending on how strong the DPS is in your group, and you will beat the Hanged Man.

The Hanged Man boss weaknesses

When the cube is on the pedestal, the Hanged Man has essentially three weak points you will want to focus your damage on Here are the Hanged Man weak points:

  • Core Cover – Located on the head near the “ear” area of the Hanged Man.
  • Rear Cover – On the Hanged Man’s lower back.
  • Sensor: Found inside the piping-looking material extending from the Hanged Man.

Once someone picks up the cube and begins that phase of the encounter, the only weak spot on the Hanged Man is his mouth area, which is called the Charger.

The Hanged Man is also very weak to Toxin, so make sure you are using Toxin-based weaponry and abilities. However, Hanged Man is very resistant to Electric attacks, which is also his damage type.

It’s recommended that you have at least 3,100 Electric Resistance to mitigate some of the damage from the Hanged Man on normal difficulty.
