Also coming to PS4 and Xbox One
I haven’t even touched The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth yet (I’m waiting for the PlayStation 4 version since that’s where my save file is), yet Edmund McMillen and Tyrone Rodriguez are already talking up the next expansion, Afterbirth+. Rodriguez says it will be paid DLC just like Afterbirth, but will include new items, enemies, and “rad” bosses.
These additions are almost expected at this point, but there’s more. Mod support is coming, though you will have to pay for the expansion to use it. When a hypothetical consumer poses the question “Why are we paying for mod support?” Rodriguez explains “Technically, you’re not. Remember, this is an expansion just like Afterbirth. Trust me, it’ll be worth it, you’ll love it.” So we’ll see about that!
If you want to, you can now replace the voice packs. That sounds like fun voice over practice to me, though I don’t know if I’ll find the time to make all of those fart noises into a mic.
On the release date front, Afterbirth+ will be coming later this year on Windows, Linux, and OSX, with a possible PS4 and Xbox One version available as well. Mod support will only be on the Windows version. As far as Afterbirth on consoles goes, it’ll be ready on PS4 and Xbox One between Q1 and Q2 of this year. I’m ready to dive back into the poop.
