Tecmo has announced that Quantum Theory, once a PlayStation 3 exclusive, is now also coming to the Xbox 360.

I had a chance to play an early build for the PlayStation 3 at Tokyo Game Show earlier in the year, and found that it was a competent — if not slightly derivative — third-person shooter that has a heavy Gears of War feel. Quantum Theory does, however, have two things that will set it apart from other similar third-person shooters.

One, parts of the game’s environment changes in real-time, altering things like cover and paths for the player. The second is that the game’s main character, Syd, teams up with a mysterious female, Filena. In a mechanic that reminded me of the Prince and Elika from 2008’s Prince of Persia, I was able to use Filena as a weapon in order to flank or take out enemies. Neat.

Expect Quantum Theory to ship for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in spring of 2010.
