In what feels like a surprise twist, Nintendo has released a new arrangement from the Pokemon franchise. Instead of pulling from the most recent games in the franchise, Sun and Moon, they have instead gone back to the days of the Game Boy Advance. This time the arranged track is “Battle! (Steven),” which played against the champion of Ruby/Sapphire.

You can check out the arrangement by Soshi Abe below.

Now normally this is the part where I provide some trivia on the composer, such as their previous work. In addition, if they provided a song for a previous entry in the Super Smash Bros. franchise, I usually include it as well. Unfortunately, I don’t have a lot to go off of this week due to a lack of information.

As far as I have been able to tell, Soshi Abe is either relatively new at Nintendo and possibly the industry as a whole or has not had a major role until now. His only known work is as a composer for a portion of the soundtrack of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and that’s it. This means that this arrangement is his first contribution to the Super Smash Bros. franchise.

Regardless, he absolutely nailed it with this arrangement and I’m looking forward to hearing more of his work.
