Dotemu has dropped a short gameplay trailer for Lizardcube’s upcoming brawler Streets of Rage 4. The clip features ex-cops Axel Stone and Blaze Fielding ripping through a selection of recognisable enemies, backed with a sweet remix of the franchise’s piano-rave soundtrack. Axel has become a right hunk o’ ham in the ensuing years

Also notable in the final shot are silhouettes of as-yet-unrevealed characters. Could that be Adam on the left, or perhaps an adult version of his brother, Skate? On the right we have a huge dude with a mech-arm. Is that you, Max? what happened to your arm, brother? Could it be Streets of Rage 4’s robot-grandad, Zan? Hopefully we’ll find out more details soon.

In terms of gameplay, SoR 4 is looking very respectful of its predecessors. Even though it has a new, comic-book-style look, the moves and animation frames are all instantly recognisable from Streets of Rage 2, including some of our heroes trademark special attacks. Throw in some new locales and a Fight’n Rage-esque juggle system and yeah boy, this is looking very cool indeed.

Streets of Rage 4 is currently in development for unspecified platforms.
