As a part of Sony’s keynote speech at CES 2022, the publisher revealed Horizon VR Call of the Mountain, the first video game developed for the upcoming PS5 virtual reality hardware, PSVR2. Developed by Guerilla Games and Sony’s recently-acquired UK studio Firesprite, Call of the Mountain will transport players directly into the apocalyptic 31st century.

The teaser trailer above, featuring Guerilla’s studio director Jan-Bart van Beek, doesn’t feature too much game exposition, but an accompanying article on PlayStation Blog reveals that Horizon Call of the Mountain will see players step into the shoes of a brand new protagonist as they explore Horizon‘s beautiful and highly dangerous world. The player is expected to traverse the landscape, embark upon adventure, and come face-to-face with familiar characters, including Aloy herself.

With its stunning lush forests, frozen tundras, magnificent… uhh… horizons, and plethora of gigantic and fascinating creatures, the Horizon franchise is a very snug fit for a VR experience. Add in the power of PS5 technology, and some of the PSVR2’s recently revealed features — such as Haptic Feedback and eye-tracking — and Call of the Mountain could prove to be quite the rollercoaster experience, all from the safety of your own living room.

Horizon Call of the Mountain is currently in development for the PSVR2 platform. Guerilla Games is also busy putting the finishing touches to the exciting-looking Horizon Forbidden West, which launches on PS4 & PS5 February 18.
