Starfield “dynamic” backgrounds now live on Xbox

Less dynamic, more static

Starfield is the first new IP from Bethesda Game Studios in a quarter-century, and it’s understandably taking the gaming world by storm. As if to help get you in the spacefaring spirit, Microsoft has made a Starfield “dynamic” background available for Xbox Series S and Series X users, and … it’s effectively a JPEG

It should be said that the dynamic background looks cool — it’s the cover art of Starfield — but “dynamic” isn’t the first word that comes to mind. It’s wholly unlike the dynamic background available through syncing the official Starfield Xbox controller. That background features galactic lines moving ever-so-slightly across the screen.

If, despite this, you’d like to acquire this new background for yourself, start by jumping into your console’s settings. Then head over to the personalization menu, and navigate to your collected backgrounds / dynamic backgrounds. It’s here you should see the new “dynamic” Xbox theme.

All things considered, the new “dynamic” background might be one of the only things in Starfield considered static. Destructoid’s Steven Mills awarded Bethesda’s latest with an elusive 10-out-of-10, saying, “Starfield is an epic sandbox open-world RPG with a beautifully immersive universe, a captivating story, and fun and compelling gameplay the whole way.”

When does Starfield Launch?

Starfield is out now via Xbox Game Pass for players with the premium edition upgrade. For those without, the game formally launches on September 5.  If you want to jump in immediately, Starfield launches at 8:00 p.m. EST / 7:00 p.m. CST / 5:00 p.m. PST. So, begin the countdown … and take off into parts unknown.
