Here’s the rundown

The day has come. We knew it was on the way! But now you can dive into your PS5 and Xbox Series X/S library and grab your free next-gen upgrade for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

EA announced the news officially with a giant landing page full of FAQs, so I’ll break down the big stuff very quickly so you don’t have to sift through it. In short, the upgrade has “higher resolution textures and assets,” with 4K/HDR support, 60 FPS, and faster load times. So all of the bells and whistles of the new generation.

The upgrades are automatic, as your accounts are flagged if you’re a previous owner. In a weird case where if you own a disc-less console, you can contact EA support to grab the free upgrade. If you need more help, there’s disc-related upgrade answers for PS5 and Xbox Series consoles. Deluxe Editions will carry over.

As for the game itself, there’s a performance mode on toggle (1440p at 60FPS) and an off toggle (4K at 30FPS). Saves will transfer automatically on Xbox consoles (of course), and you can also import your PS4 saves manually by selecting “import PS4 system save data” from the start-up screen (no Final Fantasy VII Remake in-game tool needed, thankfully). Plus, achievements/trophies will automatically unlock when you transfer your save.

And that’s it! It’s basically the same game just with performance toggles and slightly better visuals, amid the free upgrade. And it’s coming at the perfect time, as I’m due for another replay right around now: once the madness of E3 is over, of course! Maybe during a rainy day weekend when some of my most anticipated summer games are all done and dusted.
