EA announced today that two new games in the Spore franchise will be appearing on Nintendo’s consoles this coming fall. Spore Hero and Spore Hero Arena will be making their way to the Nintendo Wii and DS respectively on October 6th in North America, followed by the rest of the world on October 9th.

Based on EA’s description from their press release (see below the fold), the games revolve around you controlling a single monster you can create and modify as they embark on an epic quest to save their world. Hey, wasn’t that the plot of the incredibly poor Spore Creatures on DS? It looks and sounds as though EA is attempting the same formula with this one, and adding a multiplayer battle component for the monsters.

I hope it’s better than I think it’s going to be. The Spore games always sound interesting but I haven’t yet seen anything that lives up to the potential that the franchise has.
