There was once a time when Sony’s PlayStation commercials were absolutely fantastic. We no longer live in that time. Rather, we live in an age where Sony is just abstract and confusing, rather than interesting and fun. Overly artistic and melodramatic “reflections” commercials like the one above serve to hammer the reality home.
Apparently, these spots are merely primers for a bigger campaign, but I hardly think that this kind of approach is going to stand out against the entrenched appeal of the Wii or Microsoft’s new focus on selling Lips and Scene It? to families of pricks.
One would guess that when the full campaign launches on November 21, it will come with some sort of announcement. If they are just going to try and hawk LittleBigPlanet for the whole holiday season, it’ll be a rather dire bit of marketing.
All I know is, I want a return to the days when PlayStation ads kicked ass.
