[Update: According to a post on the PlayStation Blog, Sony ascribes the outage to “high levels of traffic designed to disrupt connectivity and online gameplay.” The company is working to resolve the issue and restore network connectivity as soon as possible.]
Sony asserts the PlayStation Network should steadily be coming back online. The announcement follows a two-day outage reportedly spurred by denial-of-service attacks.

Destructoid’s attempts to connect to the network today via PS4, PS3, and Vita have thus far proved unsuccessful. Meanwhile, PlayStation Support has shown network connectivity fluctuating between “intermittently available” and “offline.” Sony promises updates on the situation as soon as information becomes available.
We’re aware that some users are experiencing sign-in issues on PS4 and PS3; engineers are investigating the cause.

Xbox Live managed to restore service yesterday after sustaining similar complications over the past couple days. Microsoft’s network appears to be “up and running” at the time of writing.
