Paramount drops final trailer and nostalgic poster
We are less than a month away from the premiere of Paramount Pictures’ fun-looking sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog, unsurprisingly titled Sonic the Hedgehog 2. In order to get fans giddy one last time before the big day, the studio has released a “final trailer” for the movie, which will hit the big screen on April 8.
The new trailer goes in heavy on fan-pleasing moments, as the returning Sonic is joined by loveable scamp Tails in a battle against the villainous Dr. Robotnik and the heavy-duty echidna, Knuckles. The preview features beloved Sonic the Hedgehog iconography, including warp rings, chaos emeralds, Tails’ biplane, Robotnik’s fun little flying dock, and even the legendary Death Egg Robot. Very exciting stuff for fans, almost exciting enough to make me forgive the utterly bizarre way the trailer chops up dialogue to litter throughout different sequences.
Movie trailers are an art form. One that has been long lost… But I digress…
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 sees Ben Schwartz return as the Blue Blur, with James Marsden as his long-suffering buddy, Tom. Jim Carrey dons the twirly moustache of Dr. Robotnik, while Idris Elba pulls on the spike gloves of Knuckles. In a nice bit of casting, Tails’ long-time voice actor Colleen O’Shaughnessey will voice the two-tailed fox, reprising her role from the video games.
Paramount Pictures has also released a new poster for the movie, which neatly replicates the famous box art of the original 1992 Sega Genesis release Sonic the Hedgehog 2 ā one of the most successful video games of all time. When you look at how much these new marketing materials fully embrace the legacy of the original video game series, those trailers ā those trailers ā seem practically another lifetime ago.
WE UNDERSTOOD THE ASSIGNMENT.
