Speeding its way to a platform near you
Sega has announced brand new DLC content for its open-world escapade, Sonic Frontiers — The Sights, Sounds, and Speed bundle will bring new challenges and features to The Blue Blur’s latest adventure, and will be dropping on all platforms as soon as March 22, 2023… That’s Wednesday!
Sights
“Sights” refers to an all-new Photo Mode. This much-requested feature will allow players to pause their game at any time, (I would assume outside of cutscenes), and take control of a freely moveable camera, snapping shots and Sonic and friends in action as they whiz their way across Starfall Islands. The Sonic Frontiers world is quite picturesque, it has to be said, so any budding shutterbugs can now capture the strange land in all of its fineries.
Sounds
The new DLC will also feature a Jukebox Mode, featuring 53 tracks packed with “your favorite Sonic songs”. The first 13 tracks will be available at launch, with the remaining 40 being unlocked as you gather “Sound Memories” that are scattered around Starfall Islands. We better have some Marble Zone beats going on here or there’s gonna be a sternly-worded letter heading Sega’s way.
Speed
And, by the process of elimination, we can assume that “Speed” refers to two brand new Challenge Modes, devised to test the mettle of hardened Sonic Frontiers fans. Battle Rush will see Sonic standoff against an army of enemies, including Titans and Guardians, in a race against the clock, while The Cyber Space Challenge will task players with whizzing through multiple Cyber Space stages. back-to-back, in time-attack action. Both modes seem made to test players’ speed and efficiency, as well as their combat prowess. Got to, indeed, go fast.
Sights, Sounds, and Speed is the first of three DLC drops coming to Sonic Frontiers in 2023. Later releases are set to include additional features and challenges, including an “Open Zone Challenge” and additional playable characters.
Sonic Frontiers is available now on PlayStation, PC, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch platforms.
